Scientists from Zelinsky Institute published a review on methods of oxidative sulfonylation of multiple bonds

7 september 2020 г.

Oxidative coupling reactions are a powerful tool in organic synthesis for the formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. No leaving groups are required, that is why such processes can be considered as economically and ecologically promising. In particular, oxidative sulfonylation makes possible synthesis of various structures with SO2-fragment, which are widely applied in organic, medicinal, and agrochemistry.

The review, which was published by researchers of laboratory №13 of Zelinsky Institute, is devoted to recent achievements in the field of oxidative sulfonylation of multiple bonds with sulfonyl hydrazides, sulfinic acids and their salts, which are used as sulfonylation reagents in such transformations. It is known, that under the action of oxidants they generate S-centered sulfonyl radicals, which can be trapped by multiple bonds with the formation of various sulfonylated products, such as vinyl and alkynyl sulfones, hydroxy-, keto-and halosubstituted sulfones, sulfonylated derivatives of carbo- and heterocycles.
