New oxindole derivatives with promising anticancer activity were synthesized at the Zelinsky Institute

14 july 2022 г.

Cancer is a socially significant disease and one of the most common causes of people death. Cancer treatment remains one of the most serious problems in the field of medicine. New methods of therapy and effective anti-cancer agents are constantly required. Oxindole is an important structural moiety in several anticancer drugs such as sunitinib, nintedanib, semaxanib, and orantinib. In recent decades, oxindole derivatives with cytotoxic and antiproliferative activity have been actively searched.

The Laboratory of Nitrogen-Containing Compounds of the ZIOC actively conducts research in the field of methods for the synthesis of polycyclic nitrogen-containing heterocycles and the study of their biological activity. In one of their recent works, based on many years of experience in the relationship between the structure of oxindole derivatives and their antiproliferative activity, scientists managed to obtain a number of polycyclic compounds based on oxindole, which exhibit pronounced anticancer activity. The lead compound showed activity at submicromolar concentrations and was non-toxic to normal cell lines.
