ZIOC scientists analyzed the diversity of fungal carbohydrates

Statistical analysis of the structural diversity of carbohydrates using the methods of glycoinformatics makes it possible to identify and systematize the components of the structure of glycans unique for each taxonomic group and the enzymes responsible for their biosynthesis. These parts of the glycome are potential targets for new drugs and antifungal vaccines. The recent achievement of complete coverage of fungal carbohydrates in the database of natural carbohydrates (Carbohydrate Structure Database, N.K. Kochetkov Laboratory of Carbohydrates and Biocides) made it possible for the first time to conduct a thorough analysis of fungal glycome in comparison with glycomes of other microorganisms (bacteria and protozoa).
