Scientists of the Zelinsky Institute have obtained new high-energy salts based on triazole and furoxan

21 october 2022 г.

One of the most promising classes of high-energy materials are structures containing several nitrogen-containing heterocyclic fragments. One of the key approaches to obtaining high-energy materials with a balanced set of physicochemical properties is a combination of structurally diverse heterocycles with a large number of nitrogen atoms. This approach was used by researchers from the Laboratory of Nitrogen-Containing Compounds of the ZIOC to obtain (1,2,4-triazolyl)furoxans with good detonation characteristics and reduced sensitivity. However, the NH moiety of the 1,2,4-triazole ring is known to be acidic, which can promote corrosion, which is highly undesirable for the applications of such materials. To solve this problem, in one of their recent works, scientists managed to synthesize high-energy salts of (1,2,4-triazolyl)furoxans as anions and various polynitrogen bases as cations. Several resulting structures have excellent thermal stability, and the combination of good experimental densities and high positive calculated enthalpies of formation provides good detonation characteristics of the synthesized high-energy salts.
