Researchers of the Zelinsky Institute have obtained new energetic monomers

12 january 2023 г.

Research on the development of new energetic materials retains a leading position in modern materials science. Recently, nitrogen-rich energy-intensive polymers have attracted increasing attention. They are often used in high-energy compositions as binders, fuels, gas-generating agents and plasticizers. However, the range of synthetically available energy-intensive monomers suitable as precursors for obtaining the corresponding polymers is very limited, which makes the search for such structures an urgent scientific problem.

Scientists from the Laboratory of Nitrogen-Containing Compounds of the ZIOC have developed a selective method for the synthesis of (2-vinyltetrazolyl)furoxans containing additional explosophoric groups, which are potential monomers for the development energetic polymers. The synthesized structures have good densities, high content of nitrogen and oxygen, and high enthalpies of formation. The combination of these parameters led to good calculated detonation characteristics of all studied (2-vinyltetrazolyl)furoxans, exceeding those of the reference explosive TNT, which makes them promising candidates for creating effective high-energy polymers based on them.
