ZIOC scientists have published a review on the latest advances in the synthesis and pharmacological use of piperidine derivatives.

Piperidine is one of the most important synthetic fragments for creating drugs and plays a significant role in the pharmaceutical industry. Its derivatives are found in more than twenty classes of pharmaceuticals, as well as in alkaloids. Thus, the development of fast and economical methods for the synthesis of substituted piperidines is an important task of modern organic chemistry.

Scientists of the N.K. Kochetkov Laboratory of carbohydrates and biocides of the Zelinsky Institute published a review summarizing the scientific literature of the last 5 years on intra- and intermolecular reactions leading to the formation of various piperidine derivatives: substituted piperidines, spiropiperidines, fused piperidines, and piperidinones. In addition, the main pharmaceutical applications of synthetic and natural piperidines were shown, as well as recent scientific advances in the discovery and biological evaluation of potential drugs containing the piperidine cycle. This review is intended to help both novice researchers taking their first steps in this field and experienced scientists looking for suitable substrates for the synthesis of biologically active piperidines.
