ZIOC scientists obtained promising high-energy substances based on furoxan

1 august 2023 г.

High-energy compounds are one of the most important functional materials that occupy a leading position in the development of modern space and mining industries. Advanced space and civil technologies impose new increased requirements on the synthesis and characteristics of high-energy substances. Most of the formulations currently in use are over 50 years old and do not meet modern requirements regarding their effectiveness, insensitivity to mechanical stress, toxicity, and environmental friendliness. For this reason, obtaining high-energy compounds of a new generation, combining good physico-chemical properties and energy characteristics, is an important scientific task.

Researchers of the Laboratory of Nitrogen-Containing Compounds of the ZIOC obtained a series of new high-energy structures, which are a sequence of bifuroxans enriched in explosophoric nitro and azo groups. The synthesized compounds combine the necessary physico-chemical properties and excellent energy characteristics. They have high densities, acceptable thermal stability, high enthalpies of formation, and a positive CO oxygen balance. Thanks to this advantageous set of properties, the resulting high-energy substances have high detonation velocities, excellent heats of explosion and combustion rates. The results obtained provide a great potential for the use of the synthesized structures based on furoxan as high-energy materials of a new generation.
